It’s Mikayla’s first Mother’s Day and we were looking around for the perfect Mother’s Day gift for her Grandma and Lola. I wanted to get something that was from the heart and cute, since it’s from a baby.
I was over at my Mom’s house (Lola) and sitting in her office when I found a box of stuff I had when I was a kid, like my rock collection (WHY does she still have my rock collection?). Then it hit me! A box for all of Mikayla’s little collections, artwork and photos. When I was a kid, I had lots of little things that I gave my aunties and Lola, like shells I collected, school photos and pictures I drew. They always ended up on the fridge and stayed there till they were stained and faded. So a special box to put everything she wants to give them seemed perfect.
What you’ll need:
- A decorative box
- Gold Sharpie (extra fine point)
- Computer & Printer
- Photos
- Glue and tape
- We went to Michaels and picked up two of these decorative boxes and a gold oil based Sharpie pen (extra fine point).
- At home, I downloaded this font I liked from dafont.com to create a stencil of Mikayla’s name. I used Photoshop but you can use Word if you don’t have photoshop. I just typed out her name, printed it and cut it out. I taped it to the spine of the box and traced out her name.
- Using the gold oil based Sharpie, I filled and coloured in what I had traced out. I chose gold to match the Be Happy on the box, and it turned out subtle which worked for me!
- I had printed out some square photos using the Parabo Press app, but regular photos work great too. I glued a photo of Mikayla to the inside of the box to personalize it a bit more.
- I printed out this cute poem and message and glued it to the bottom of the box.
“Dear Grandma,
You have ears that truly listen,
arms that always hold,
love that’s never ending,
and a heart that’s made of gold.
Here is a special box to fill with all my keepsakes, collections, art and memories!”
