We were gifted a newborn family photoshoot session at our Baby Shower but we ended up getting photos done at the hospital by the photographer there. We liked the photos of Baby Mikayla but we didn’t like the ones that included us because we looked hella haggard!
Apart of me regrets not being organized or brave enough to leave the house and book newborn photos for Mikayla, but the first month of her being born was a huge adjustment for us. So I got over it and we decided, instead of newborn photos, we would book family photos this coming Spring when Mikayla is a little older, sitting up on her own and smiling (when we ask)! This got me thinking… where would be a good place to take these photos?
We’re so lucky to live in a city where we are surrounded by water, beaches and mountains, so it’s not hard to find a great location for photos. This city is just so photogenic! You could go anywhere in the Lower Mainland and take some great shots. But I have a few places that are my absolute favourite for being extremely photogenic!
Here’s my list of places to go for any kind of photoshoot in Vancouver: Engagement, Wedding, Family or just for fun.
Best Photo Locations

Iona Beach, Richmond
My best friend recently got married and had her wedding photos taken here by Ronnie Lee Photography. Her photos turned out amazing and beautiful. We went to 3 locations: Iona Beach, Queen Elizabeth Park & Britannia Shipyard in Steveston. Iona Beach is great if you’re looking for a neutral backdrop. You’ll find a beautiful mix of sand, ocean, driftwood and tall dry grass. If you’re looking for a similar location, Centennial Beach in Tsawwassen is great too.

Queen Elizabeth Park, Vancouver
You can find this beautiful patch of Banana trees only a few steps from the Celebration Pavillon. Queen E park also has a beautiful bridge, ponds, fountains and some huge billowy Willow Trees! Talk about romantic!

Britannia Shipyards Historic Site/Boardwalk, Richmond
Here we are in front of the Chinese Bunkhouse building at Britannia Shipyards which gave us a nice, textured white background. You’ll also find a beautiful boardwalk and the historic and colourful homes that housed many of the cannery workers and their families. The boardwalk is right along the Fraser River and has many areas to take photos on a floating dock, by the fishing boats or you may even catch the resident swans.
Jericho Sailing Club, Vancouver
My husband and I took our engagement photos here and at Pacific Sprit Trail by UBC, in the middle of Summer the year we were engaged. We loved this place for it’s summery feel and the bright colours. We’re also beach people and love the ocean. Our photos were taken by Elle&R Photography
Pacific Spirit Trail, Vancouver
We ended up at Pacific Sprit Trail around 3pm in the middle of Summer, so we were able to catch what photographers call, the Golden Hour. This is where the sun is low and you can catch those dreamy light rays and warm tones. Similar locations as to this would include Deep Cove or Lynn Canyon both in North Vancouver.

Deer Lake Park, Burnaby
I love going to Deer Lake Park. It’s got beautiful boardwalks surrounded by tall grass and trees. It also has a cute floating dock and an opportunity to rent a paddle boat for a few photos out on the water among the lily pads and bulrush. Your photos will look like they’re right out of a fairytale!

Lighthouse Park, West Vancouver
You’ll find huge, mature trees, large flat rocks, a cool breeze and the power of the Pacific Ocean here at Lighthouse Park. If you’re looking for breathtaking, dramatic, true West Coast photos, this is a great location. This is probably where I’m going to get our family photos done.
Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge, North Vancouver
If you’re not afraid of heights the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge is a fun spot to take pics! It’s a short hike from street parking but you’ll find lots of great photo spots at this park. Not only the bridge but there’s also the cliff jumping pool where you’ll find lots of smooth rocks and a deep green pool of water. Green from the reflection of the trees.
I hope you enjoyed my list of photo locations! Leave a comment below if you know of any other great locations!
