As a new Mom, I felt like I became sleep obsessed! In the beginning I wasn’t getting much sleep as Mikayla was feeding every two hours. Then as she got older, her sleep went from 2 hours, to 4 hours, to sleeping through the night. Both Chris and I would obsess over how much sleep we got, how long she napped, when her nap was, how many hours… etc. We were constantly counting the hours and high fiving or fist pumping everytime she would sleep an hour longer.
Mikayla sleeps 10-11 hours now and she naps twice a day for 2-3 hours and she is easy to put down to sleep. She didn’t just become like that, we had to teach her. It was tough but we’re proud that she can go to sleep without crying and she sleeps for long stretches of time. She wakes up rested and happy! And we’re no longer sleep obsessed! YAY.
Here’s a list of what I love for sleep:
- Nook Sleep Mattress. I love this mattress. It’s firm but comfy, cozy. It doesn’t crinkle, and there’s a mattress cover on it that can come off to be washed. It’s so easy to take off and on, I can do it with one hand.
- Bonds Wondersuit Pajamas. These pajamas are from Australia. We love them because theres a two-way zipper, which makes diaper changes easy, the feet have extra fabric on them so you can fold them down to cover cold toes or fold them up. There are so many different styles. We use the short sleeve ones for Summer and the thicker, terry long sleeve ones for winter.
- Baby Oil. We use Burts Bees baby massage oil. I lather her up with this after a bath and give her a little massage. She knows it’s bed time when the oil comes out.
- Sleep Sheep. The sleep sheep is a cozy stuffy that Mikayla hugs when she sleeps and it also has a white noise machine inside that helps drown out any of Zoey’s barks, or if we have people over or if the TV is on.
