Throwing it back to when we could leave our houses without any second thought. Now we’re living life a little simpler – at home.
If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that I’m an advocate for #selfcare. As a new mom in these uncertain times, when anxiety is high I feel it’s important more than ever to “check yourself”, be aware of your mental health and how you are feeling.
We all know, that when women become mothers they change – physically, emotionally and psychologically to start caring for her child. All throughout your journey as a Mom it’s important to find the little bits of time you need to care for YOU, as you would your baby.
Here are some ways you can mother yourself in these socially isolating times:
- Stand and walk TALL. Avoid slouching when you walk to sit. Think of your spine like a tall tree trunk, imagine the top of your head is the top of the tree and the heels of your feet or your tailbone is planted on the ground like roots. Straighten your spine, rotate your shoulders back. Think tall and long!
- Go for short, quick walks outside. Exercise can boost your mood and reduce stress. Pop your earbuds in and listen to your favourite kind of music.
- Be kind to yourself and make time to relax. Schedule it into your calendar if you have to. My way of relaxing is sitting on the couch, scrolling through my phone with a tea or coffee and a facemask.
- Hugs. A good hug from your partner or family can heal a lot of negative or lonely emotions. Take a moment and hug a loved one.
You’re not alone in this.
