Summer time is the best time for camping adventures! What better place to explore than Beautiful BC. All these places are less than 4 hours away from Vancouver, making them perfect for quick weekend trips with the kids.
Alice Lake Provincial Park, Squamish
We like Alice Lake Provincial Park for a few reasons.
- The Lake is a very short walk from your campsite
- The Playground
- Boat Rentals
The downside is that no dogs are allowed at the beach, at the playground or on the trails around the lake. So our doggy had to stay at base camp.
E.C. Manning Provincial Park
Head East on Hwy 1 and between Hope & Princeton is Manning Park. It’s home to a bunch of different campgrounds but our favourite place to camp is Lighting Lake Campground. It’s closer to the lake and farther away from the highway. We love:
- Lightning Lake Loop Trail,
- Canoeing, spotting fish and ducks while exploring the lake
- Swimming!

Sasquatch Provincial Park, Harrison Hot Springs
3 lakes! Trout Lake, Hicks Lake and Deer Lake. There’s lots to explore at this park. Hicks Lake is great for swimming and floating! There are lots of great trails to explore and little pockets of beach along the beach trail that goes along the perimeter of Hicks Lake. There’s also waterfront camping at Hicks Lake. It truly is a beautiful spot.
I’ll continue to add to this list as we camp around BC next Summer 2021!
Tips and Things We’ve Learned
- Create a Discover Camping account and log in before you start searching for a campsite.
- Book for Provincial Sites as soon as booking opens usually around May.
- Check the Discover Camping website often as reservations open up as people cancel their plans.
- It’s very unlikely that Provincial Sites have first come first serve available in the Summer. Make a reservation!
