Life with a 21 Month Old

At 21 months, it feels as though overnight Mikayla has grown into a chatty, goofy, fun and smart little girl. The girl loves gardening, playing with dirt, smelling flowers and tinkering with her gardening tools so we had to make a visit to the Abbotsford Tulip Festival.

Speaking

Mikayla is at a stage where she’s copying everything you say. She watches our lips and copies the shapes we make while we talk too. She’s also getting really good at connecting words with actions. For example, she’ll “Haaaiiiiiiiiiiii!” and wave. Another thing she also loves to do is say “COME!!!” then she’ll pull your hand and show you what she’s doing. Or she’ll say “Hmmm…” and put her finger to her chin and think. Her Grandma and Grandpa read her a book with a bunch of Disney Characters in it, so she recently learned all about the 7 Dwarfs. We’ll ask her what Grumpy does, and she’ll do a grumpy face. Or we’ll ask her what Happy does, and she’ll give us a big laugh, “HA HA HA” and smile.

Playing with other Kids

We have so much fun going to the park with Mikayla. She loves the swings, slide and the bouncy see-saw thing. She says Hi to all the kids at the park, no matter what age. She likes to do her own thing, and she’ll just stare at the other kids. Sometimes she’ll try to give them things, but most of the time she’ll just look at them. Hahaha. It’s like she’s trying to figure them out. She doesn’t have many other kids her age to play with regularly so meeting new kids is different for her.

Sleep

Mikayla just recently started teething again. I think she’s getting her very last set of molars. She had a low fever and wasn’t sleeping well at night. She’d get up in the middle of the night and cry or she would get up earlier than usual, like 6am. Usually she’s in bed by 8:30 and up at 7:30.

Mikayla and our English Bulldog, Zoey

I’ve gotta put together a video of Mikayla and our dog Zoey. She loves that dog so much. She insists on holding Zoey’s leash and if Zoey is pulling she’ll say “Zoey fast” or if the dog is being stubborn and not moving, Mikayla will say “Zoey, GO!” or if Zoey’s done something bad, she’ll say “no-no Zozo” and wave her finger back and forth. They’re also so sweet to each other. Mikayla will kiss Zoey or gently “pat pat” her, and Zoey will just lay there and let Mikayla do whatever.
