I’m changing it up from my usual denim blue jeans to these denim striped pants for SPRING!
Even though daylight savings can screw us up a bit, I’m loving the fact that it’s still light out at 5pm! It feels like we can still get outside or do something after dinner.
Mikayla is 20 months or basically a “year and a half”! I’d rather just say she’s a year and a half, but so much changes with her every day that I can totally understand why some parents count their toddler’s age by months.
Speaking
At 20 months, Mikayla is super chatty. She says all kinds of things, can remember animals, faces and shapes. She will point to this muddy buddy she’s wearing and say “red”. She knows some of her shapes, like circles, triangles, rectangles and hearts. Her favourite colour to say is red and blue. But she also says “purple”, “pink”, “orange” and “lello” for yellow.
She loves her grandparents. She calls Chris’ parents Gramma and… Gramma (she’ll get GrandPA soon) and when we ask her to say “Lola” for my Mom and “Lolo” for my Dad, she wiggles her tongue back and forth in her mouth to make a “lelelelele” sound. HAHA she’ll get it one day.
Her favourite book is “Good Boy Carl” it’s a picture book with no words, but she makes up her own story with words she knows like “mama gone!” or “baby bath!” or “bubbles” or “snack!” or “clean, clean”.
Eating
She’s a good eater! She feeds herself and eats anything we put in front of her. Her favourite foods are grilled cheese sandwiches, spaghetti, chicken adobo and rice and a mild coconut curry with red snapper and rice. Funny thing is she doesn’t start eating until she has a fork or spoon. She’ll say “fork?” if she doesn’t have one. But then once she has her fork, she’ll alternate eating with her hands and sometimes uses her fork or spoon. Sometimes I worry that she’s overeating cus there are somedays where she just eats and eats and eats. Even when she’s finished her meal, she’ll ask for more. But she seems to be okay and eventually stops.
Playing
Mikayla has become very attached to her little pink bunny. She does everything with it and treats it like her baby. She cradles it, puts blankets on it to keep it warm, she gives it some of her milk and pretends to feed it. She sleeps with it too. When she meets new kids she gets a little shy but eventually she warms up to them and joins in. The park is so fun with her! She loves the slide and swings. She’ll go down the slide on her own and says “WEEE!!!” even after sliding she’ll still say “WEEE!”. She always checks with us first to see if she can go on something or she’ll tug on our hand and want us to go with her, cus she’s a little shy. But once she’s comfortable with it she wants to do it on her own.
Back at home she loves watching Paw Patrol, The Wiggles and Peppa the Pig. Every time any of those shows come on she stops what she’s doing and does a little head bob to the music.
Sleep
When it comes to napping, she went through a stage and she’s still kinda doing this, but she will cry before falling asleep because she doesn’t want to stop playing. She’ll have a bit of a tantrum and say “Nooooo!!!!!” but she’ll soon realize that she’s tired. It takes a little bit of soothing on our part. We’ll go into her room if she’s been crying for a bit and say “it’s alright” and rub her back, or I’ll pick her up and soothe her a bit and she’ll settle down and fall asleep in her crib.
Mikayla is a curious little girl with a friendly smile and funny personality! She likes being silly and seeing you laugh. She’ll copy the laugh too which is so cute. We’re loving every minute with her and love watching her grow.
