Self Care For New Moms

Finding time for yourself when you have a newborn baby is like digging around for a hair tie in your diaper bag when your hands are full. It’s not easy and it can be frustrating. But just like a hair tie, time for yourself is necessary. Especially when you’re a new mom. You’ve just had a baby, your body needs to rest and recover. Not only for your health at that time, but in the future. If you don’t take the time to heal up and take care of yourself now, you’ll feel the aches and pains later in life.

Here are 5 Self Care Things To Do when you’re a new mom
  1. Ask for support. Invite someone you trust to come over to watch the baby so you can rest, take a nap or shower during the day.
  2. Stand and walk tall. Sounds a bit weird but think Super Woman! Google “power poses by Amy Cuddy”. This is such a quick exercise that will boost your mood, help you destress, build confidence and there’s no guilt!⁣
  3. Go for short walks outside. Exercise can boost your mood and reduce stress.
  4. Be kind to yourself and make time to relax. My way of relaxing is sitting on the couch, scrolling through my phone with a good coffee and a facemask.
  5. Hugs. A good hug from your partner or family can heal a lot of negative or lonely emotions. Take a moment and hug a loved one. You’re not alone in this.
