I’ll admit it… that title makes it sound like we really plan out and take the time to celebrate Earth Day. We haven’t always been that way, but since having a child, every “holiday” seems to be a larger and more fun celebration. So sure! Why not! Let’s celebrate Earth Day!
Guys, The Bloedel Conservatory at Queen Elizabeth Park is the cutest little place for kids. There are all kinds of tropical birds, parrots, even a peacock and if you’re a plant buff like I am, you’ll love all the flowers and different varieties of tropical plants. It’s super humid and warm inside, making this place a good one to go to get out of the house and burn a few hours on a rainy day.
Earth Day is on Sunday, April 22nd.
Here are a few FREE events happening in the Metro Vancouver Area:
- Surrey’s Party For The Planet – Saturday, April 14th 10am to 6pm at City Hall Plaza in Surrey. The City of Surrey goes big, again! They always put on great family, friendly events. I’ve been to this event in the past for work and there are some great kid friendly vendors, lots of activities, mascots and 3 music and performance stages. This year, jugglers, entertainers and musicians like Bobs and Lolo (for the little kids), and headlining – Sam Roberts (for the adults and older kids) will be on the main stage.
- Stanley Park Ecology Society’s Earth Day Celebration – Saturday, April 21st 12pm to 4pm at the Stanley Park Nature House on Lost Lagoon. I haven’t been to this one but it sounds hands on! It’s an all ages event, where you can get down and dirty, become one with nature and help pull some weeds and invasive species at the park (tools provided)! There’s also guided walks around the park and vendors, activities and community group information.
- Earth Day Parade on Commercial Drive – Saturday, April 21st 1pm. This is a student run parade, where students dress up, play instruments and show their enthusiasm for Earth Day. It ends with a gathering at Grandview Park. Good opportunity to bring a picnic lunch.
