We camped for 2 nights at Alice Lake Provincial Park in Squamish at the end of September. The weather was still great during the day and at night it cooled down. It rained pretty hard one night, but while we were asleep. It made for a very cool experience as we stayed dry in our trailer and listened to the rain and the sounds of the forest. The trees were just starting to change colours, making the lake view so beautiful. The best part of camping in the Fall is the cool air, the fresh, rainy smell.
On top of your usual camping packing list, Fall brings a couple extra challenges, especially if you’re tenting.
Tips to Camping in the Fall:
- Bring toques. It might be nice and warm during the day, but at night and early morning, you’ll appreciate the extra warmth.
- Layers. Pack t-shirts, sweaters and a light waterproof jacket in case it rains.
- Rain Pants/Rain Gear & Rain Boots. Especially for the kids. Stay dry! We use muddy buddies and those come in so handy when we’re camping in damp weather. (Although in our photos.. we walked over to the lake not expecting to need our muddy buddies… LOL)
- Kettle or Coffee Press. One of my FAVOURITE things about Fall Camping is waking up in. the morning and enjoying my hot, morning coffee outside. Or a hot apple cider mid day or pumpkin spice latte!
- Pack Soups. Canned or frozen homemade soups taste so much better outdoors. Toast up some garlic bread on the campfire and you’re in. business.
- Tarps. Tarps are your best friend when camping in the fall. Have a tarp over your eating area. If you tent, put a tarp down under your tent and place a tarp over your tent as well. This is all so your stuff doesn’t get soaked and you stay as dry and comfortable as possible.
- Fire Starter Sticks or Cubes. If in case your fire wood gets a bit damp, fire starter sticks can help you get a fire started in a jiffy.
