Ucluelet is a quiet, seaside town about 2.5 hours from Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. Mostly known for fishing and the Wild Pacific Trail. Many British Columbians head to the coast of Ucluelet and it’s neighbouring town, Tofino in October, November & December for storm watching. Although the town is pretty quiet, the Wild Pacific Trail isn’t. The trail gets you close and personal with how powerful the Pacific Ocean can be and will leave you refreshed and in a way, reinvigorated.
The Wild Pacific Trail is a beautiful one that winds in and out of the forest and with long stretches of path that’s right on the edge of the coast with a gusty and gorgeous view of the wild Pacific Ocean. It’s mesmerizing watching huge waves hit the rugged coast while listening to the howling wind passing through the trees.
We started our hike at Terrace Beach where our cabin was and ended at the Lighthouse then looped back. It’s about a 2.5 kilometre hike on a very easy to navigate trail. Our little bulldog Zoey is in love with the forest. She ran up and down and through the woods like a deer! Not even the warning signs of a black bear could scare her… but then again Zoey can’t read. Our lil babe was nice and snug in her carrier. She likes the motion of me walking, it puts her to sleep. We took our time to explore each look out point and tried to see how close to the ocean we could get without getting blown away! Each look out point gave you a different perspective of the scattered and broken up islands getting beat on by the huge and wild waves. The view is amazing!
Back at Terrace Beach we stayed at a cabin that was perfect for us and our dog Zoey. It was rustic, cozy and had an amazing view of the cove at Terrace Beach. Oh and the place is owned by Jason Priestly! There is a private hot tub on the deck overlooking the ocean and a loft bedroom with a cute window that we kept open to listen to the waves at night.
